General GC

Some general Grand Canyon photos (taken with the "good" camera - but unfortunately, some of the settings weren't dialed in correctly.  I tried to tweak the images, but some of them just didn't come out right).

 A sunset pic.

A condor - the giveaways are the numbered tags on the wings!

 I liked the people shadows...!

People always like to push the limit - handstands on the "diving board" of Half Dome, blah, blah, blah.  Maybe these folks aren't doing something quite as ridiculous, but it still doesn't look too intelligent...
I like the "face" down below them.  Looks like some grouchy fellow pointed towards the canyon.

 "Heeeelllllllllllllloooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!?"

Bill outside the Kolb Bros. Studio.

 Inside the studio.

Emery and Ellsworth (he's the older one, but I'm not sure which one of these figures is which!).

Yup, these are the types of things they did...

Maybe one of them told the other, "hey, go take a flying leap!"  And he did...?!

The start (or end!) of the "UP" trail.

Somebody smart (bringing her own portable cloud!) going down.

Lookout Studio.  Mary Colter designed this building too.

Check out how much the building blends in!!  Just like the rest houses on Bright Angel!

 El Tovar Hotel.

 El Tovar, from afar.

El elk in front of El Tovar.

 Billy and The Canyon.

And The Ice Cream (and The Wife).

The View!  You see that long canyon slot going away in the distance?  And the little bit of green at the start of it?  Phantom Ranch is by that bit of green.  And the North Kaibab trail heads out along that slot and ends up somewhere on the North Rim.  It's a lot longer trail - 14.2 miles!  Maybe next time I can somehow do a rim to rim like some folks, but that'll take even more planning!  And if you see the other, even teenier bit of green more in the bottom left section?  That's basically the Indian Gardens area.

Here's a zoomed photo of the trees near or in the Indian Gardens.  You can also see the trail that goes from  Indian Gardens to Plateau Point.  The trail up from the river (which you can also see a wee bit of!) actually takes you through the winding cracks and crevices less visible in this photo.

Another look at the Colorado River, but this time from Desert View (many miles east of the main village area).

The famous Desert View Watchtower - again a very cool design by Mary Colter.

 Inside the tower.

They had all sorts of great graphics inside!

This little girl may have been doing a special dance, but it didn't rain or anything afterwards, so maybe she was just posing for a picture?!

The moon coming up over the canyon.

 Mather Point (in B&W).

Is she sticking her tongue out at me?!!  Oh wait, she's got something green on her tongue - I guess she's just eating.  :)
