The BIG Texan!

There's not a whole lot to see/do in Amarillo, and it was not a destination for us, just a rest stop.  But one perk of our park was that it was right next to The Big Texan Steakhouse.  And if you're from Texas, or if you watch any food/cooking channel very much, I'm sure you've heard of this place!  It's famous for the "eat the 72 oz. steak in 1 hr or less and your dinner is free!"  But it's not just the gigantic steak you must consume quickly...  It's shrimp cocktail, baked potato, salad, and a roll and butter!  Neither Bill nor I were up for that challenge, but we had to experience such a famous place!

Bill and the bull.

Hmmm...  Is he doing a Rocky Mountain oyster check??!!  (and yes, those "oysters" WERE on the menu! Bill had to laugh when he read the part that said "if you think that Rocky Mountain oysters are seafood, go for the shrimp!")

 My big Texan.

It's quite the place!  (and was much busier/crowded than this photo looks!)

Fun (and talented!) entertainment for hire.

One guy giving it a go!  He wasn't sounding too hopeful when we asked him how it was going.  He doesn't LOOK like someone who could eat that much, but I took a glance at the list of winners on-line, and some of them sounded - surprisingly - like lightweights!

 Redneck wineglasses...    :)

Cool sidewalk art!  (cattle brands for those unfamiliar...)

 Their hotel.

And their limo, which picked up folks from our RV park (we took the Barton Bentley instead).

One of the picker/singer pair left me with a garter that said "meet me at the Big Texan Steak Ranch."  Tractor looks super cute in it, don't you think?!
