Cool rocks, huh? The cave is up there, hidden in the rock hills. It's reputed to have housed outlaws, including Jesse James. Not proven, but possible. (see here for more: http://www.exploresouthernhistory.com/okrobberscave2.html and http://urbane-chaos.hubpages.com/hub/RobbersCave).
My first outing to the cave was with Bill (the cave part of the park was a few miles away from the campground part). Here we are enroute...
Well? Does he look like a robber?
A pretty view and a sea of trees! More surprising terrain and vegetation out of Oklahoma!!
Pretty green and pretty trees, in and around all the rocky parts.
So that was one expedition, but I went back for another. Bill didn't come along for this hike - but that doesn't mean I hiked alone! Here is my hiking partner for the very first section. See him? He's hanging out on that first step there...
Can you see him now?! (sorry Mar!) Ain't he good-looking? He only went a little ways with me...
There are sections where you can opt to take the older, CCC-built trail.
Can you see the forest for the trees?
Some of the cool rocks - and weird lichen (makes for amazing colors, yeah?).
Neat trail section. Fairies and goblins, stage right!
Oh look! Another hiking partner! Yay!! See? This is why I never feel lonely when I'm out in nature, out hiking. I always have lots of company!
What's the stone corral? It's a natural stone pen of sorts, with high rock walls enclosing a space, leaving only a few narrow openings - perfect for holing-up your horses...
One of the exit/entrances.
Looking down into part of the stone corral. Some of the rock walls were probably 15 - 20 feet high.
Bill and I were really glad we'd come to check out this park. Pretty cool place!
