This popular state park is just east of McAlester, OK, and was our next stop after Checotah. We had to wait for the Memorial Day weekend to pass and for sites to open up. As you can see, it worked! We got a pull-through with full hook-ups. It was only available for 3 nights though - already booked up for the next weekend!
These trees make the area and site very pretty, but they can also scratch the top of your motorhome when they're not kept trimmed back enough...
So, as usual, as soon as we're parked, guess who wants to go out and explore their new digs?!!
Tracky and his dad walk the campground loop.
Mommy spots this funny-looking rock... Can you see that olive-colored lump - yeah, the one with legs...
Nice wildflower.
More cat agility.
Tractor in a tree...again.
Another favorite feline past time...
Natural cat activities... Our two kitties LOVE their motorcycle rides!!!!
Beautiful Lake Carlton, just down the hill from our campground.
Part of the area around the lake.
And oh yes, did I mention snakes? No, well, guess who found a few! Just in the Nature Center again. But I still love to see them! Here is a water moccasin (aka, cottonmouth).
And I think this was a timber rattler.
And another gorgeous copperhead.
A river that runs through it.
One of the more unusual and really neat things about this park is the equestrian campground! People can bring their RVs/trailers/horses and camp out with their equine buddies right there with them! You can tell the horses love it too! They are much more interested-looking than horses who get left behind... After all, they're camping!
Another pretty river scene.

And here are a few photos from the Rough Canyon trail I hiked. This one is of a dammed-up pond that was completely lined with frogs - this was made evident by them all jumping in as I walked by! KER-SPLASH x 100!
A small green bug.
A BIG green bug.
